Workplace Harassment of a Sexual Nature

Workplace harassment can come in the form of sexual requests, inferences, jokes, and such.  It can also be in the form of e-mail from one employee to another which is unwanted and unwelcome and of a sexual nature, or from letters or calls.  Gestures such as sexually suggestive looks or teasing can be deemed sexual harassment.  The two characteristics which absolutely have to be present in order to be sexual harassment are unwelcome behavior, and behavior that is sexual in nature.  Often victims of unlawful workplace harassment are mentally devastated and need counseling.  Counseling is available through the State Employee Assistance Program.
