Are Designs Patentable?
Designs are subject matter of design patent. Designs are independent files of the product they are applied on. For instance, the design of soft drink bottles is independent of the soft drink inside. The design does not change the contents of the bottle, just changes the look of the bottle.
Designs are perfectly worthy of patents unless they are simply imitation of other design or are a minor improvement on it. They deserve patent protection under the patent laws unless it could be shown that a design is unworthy of such protection.
